About the Event

Last Spring we started hosting social events for the new members of our community, where each month we invite a special ceramic artist to talk about their career and journey with clay, and also put on a specialist workshop with the opportunity to learn unique skills that you wouldn't find in a typical ceramics course structure.

As these events have evolved over the year and have been very popular amongst our little community at Culford Studios, we thought it would be lovely to open our doors to our wider community. And so, we are inviting you to our next Culford talk and workshop on

Saturday 12th of October with Sara Howard from Golden Earth Studio!

Sara is an award-winning London designer, building new systems in pursuit of circularity and regeneration in the ceramic industry and beyond. She graduated from Central St. Martins in 2020, studying BA Honours Degree in Ceramic Design. In her final year, Sara designed an industrial symbiosis around the ceramics industry, whereby waste from one industry replaces the virgin raw materials in ceramic production. Scaling up with ceramic tableware manufacturer Kevala in Indonesia, Sara now works with hotels and restaurants across the globe. In 2023, Sara founded Crafting Coral, an initiative regenerating reefs across Maldives and Indonesia using ceramics.

Sara also co-founded Golden Earth Studio, a platform to make construction waste streams accessible to the creative industry in pursuit of circularity. Sara’s methods and processes are shared in her book, Circular Ceramics.

The talk will be followed by a 3h workshop, where we’ll unlock the potential of London's local materials and discover how to develop new clay bodies and glazes from South London's construction sites into a ceramic practice. Golden Earth Studio is currently collaborating with a construction site in Wimbledon where we'll be collecting raw clay prior to the workshop for you to use. This unique opportunity offers insight into how artists have transformed reclaimed materials into fine art, and a chance to elevate your craft while contributing to the pursuit of circularity in the construction and creative industry.
